FOCUS

Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism is an academic journal published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Sadra. The journal provides a scholarly platform for critical and theoretical studies in philosophy and mysticism, with particular attention to Islamic intellectual traditions and their engagement with classical and contemporary philosophical discourses. The journal welcomes high-quality manuscripts employing philosophical, mystical, or theoretical approaches from diverse academic traditions.

SCOPE

Kanz Philosophia welcomes original research addressing issues related to philosophy and mysticism, including:

Islamic philosophy and philosophy in Islam;
Philosophical theories, concepts, and problems;
Islamic philosophers and thinkers;
Sufism and Islamic mysticism;
Classical and contemporary Sufism;
Comparative philosophy and mysticism;
Philosophy of religion, ethics, culture, and society; and
Epistemological, ontological, and metaphysical inquiries.

Interdisciplinary contributions are welcome, provided that the main substance of the manuscript is substantially grounded in philosophical or mystical perspectives.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Manuscripts must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition (Author-Date). Page numbers must be included where specific passages are cited, e.g., (Bunge 2012, 167–171). Footnotes are not used for bibliographical citations.
Manuscripts must strictly follow the official Kanz Philosophia Template.
Manuscripts must be written in standard American English (US English).
Manuscripts must contain 15–25 pages, excluding References.
Each manuscript must include English and Indonesian abstracts, each 200–250 words.
The title must be in English, must not exceed 20 words, and must clearly indicate a focus related to philosophy and/or mysticism (Sufism).
A maximum of five authors may be listed for each manuscript.
At least 80% of all references must be scholarly journal articles, with a minimum of 30 journal articles published within the most recent 10 years. For manuscripts submitted for 2027 issues, the relevant publication period is 2018–2027.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use Zotero, Mendeley, or another reference-management application.
Manuscripts involving authors affiliated with institutions in different countries must include a completed and signed International Co-authorship Declaration and Verification Form, uploaded as an Additional File during submission.

Announcement on the Adoption of Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) 18th Edition

To ensure consistency with the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism has updated its citation and reference style requirements.

Effective from Volume 12, Number 1 (June 2026), the journal has updated its citation style from the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition (CMS 17) to the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition (CMS 18) while retaining the Author–Date citation system. This update also includes several revisions to the journal's citation and reference formatting guidelines.

Authors intending to submit manuscripts to future issues of Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism are kindly requested to prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the updated Author Guidelines.

Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism implements the following Article Processing Charge (APC) policy, effective from Volume 12, Number 1 (June 2026):

Authors with Indonesian Institutional Affiliation: IDR 3,000,000

Authors with Non-Indonesian (International) Institutional Affiliation: USD 150

Manuscripts Co-authored by Indonesian and International Institutional Affiliations: IDR 2,500,000

The APC is charged only for manuscripts that successfully pass the editorial screening and double-blind peer-review process and are officially accepted for publication.

The APC does not include English proofreading or translation services, which remain the responsibility of the authors. Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism does not provide translation services. Authors are strongly encouraged to use professional or certified English editing services to ensure the academic quality of the final manuscript.

Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism does not offer fast-track publication. All editorial and review processes are conducted transparently and in accordance with standard scholarly publishing procedures.

A Letter of Acceptance (LoA) will be issued only after the manuscript has successfully passed the peer review and revision stages and has been declared suitable for publication by the editorial board.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied to support the sustainability and continuous improvement of Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism. The APC is used to cover costs related to the management and maintenance of the journal’s electronic publishing system, DOI registration, Crossref membership, and editorial and journal management services, including peer-review management, copyediting, layout editing, and editorial oversight.

In addition, the APC supports journal operational expenses, limited print production, and the development of facilities and infrastructure that enhance the quality, integrity, and reliability of the publication process.

Announcement of Updated Focus and Scope

Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism hereby announces an update to the journal's Focus and Scope.

This revision is intended to further clarify the academic orientation of the journal and to ensure consistency with its scholarly mission and international publishing standards. The updated Focus and Scope emphasize critical and theoretical studies in Islamic philosophy and mysticism, while maintaining openness to comparative, interdisciplinary, and global philosophical perspectives.

This update applies to all manuscripts submitted from June 2026 onward and does not affect articles submitted or published before this revision.

Authors are kindly requested to review the updated Focus and Scope before submitting their manuscripts.

Based on the Decree of the Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 295/C/C3/KPT/2026, dated January 2, 2026, concerning the Accreditation Ranking of Scientific Journals for the 2025 Period II, Kanz Philosophia: A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism has been upgraded from SINTA 3 to SINTA 1.
